Ilon Wikland’s Award for Children’s Culture Awarded to Teater Jaguar

Ilon Wikland’s Award for Children’s Culture was presented on May 26 at Gothenburg’s City Library. The award is given to Teater Jaguar, whose ambition is to introduce children to new worlds and perspectives.

Since 1987, Teater Jaguar has been performing theater exclusively for children and youth audiences. Every year, they present several different plays at their own stage in Vasastan, Gothenburg. The group regularly tours, performing at schools across the country.

Jaguar also works with original scripts and newly created dance and choreography, with performances set in places ranging from deep forests to outer space.

“The goal is to open the audience’s eyes and minds to new worlds and perspectives,” says Emil Klingvall, artistic director, actor, scriptwriter, and composer at Teater Jaguar. He continues: “We want children and young people to continue to be interested in art in the future. There is more than just screens; this is live art, and it is unique.”

Teater Jaguar received 50,000 SEK, which the group intends to use for an inspiration trip to Berlin.
